Installation Instructions It is essential that the following base criteria and installation instructions are used to ensure a proper foundation for the Groundmaster Flooring System! TOOLS REQUIRED:
Like no other stall flooring, Groundmaster flooring is a soil stabilization system, NOT a rubber mat, and it requires a base that has the following criteria: Many different base materials are acceptable. They just need to be able to be compacted very firmly and be porous. The size of the last few inches must be 1/4 minus, sometimes referred to as finds, screenings, etc. (Do Not use sand, pea gravel, or plain stone as they will not stay compacted.) Note: Each farm has a different virgin soil, or previously prepared base. Therefore, in some cases it will not be necessary to use several inches of base material. Speaking with a representative will help further assist you with any questions relating to proper base preparation and installation. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Step 1: Level the original stall floor. You may have to fill in holes with some base material. Step 2: Add 2" of the new base material, wetting and compacting it firmly. Repeat this process of laying 2 inches of base, wetting and compacting until the acquired depth is obtained. Step 3: Relates to the last 2" of base. Leave this loose and un-compacted to receive the floor. Use a straight edge, (example 2x4 board) to work the last 2 inches back and forth until the base is level. Step 4: Do the following to prepare the Groundmaster floor to install: The floors have been rolled very tight for shipment. You must roll the floor backwards and un-curl it until it is flat. **NOTE: Floors are easier to work with when warm, but do not lay them in the sun without being covered. There is no UV protection in the floor. Step 5: Loosely roll or fold the floor back up and carry it into the stall (wrapping a couple of straps around it will make it easier to carry). Step 6: Lay the floor with the funnels facing down and make any necessary cuts. Make sure the base material is damp. Starting at the back of the stall, secure the floor every two feet with anchors. Compact the floor towards the door anchoring and compact as you go. Be sure to anchor any places in the floor that do not want to lie flat. Put anchors one foot apart across any doorways and one on each side of any cuts. Make sure anchor heads are level with the floor surface. ***If anchors pound in easily in the top 6 inches, then your base needs more compacting. ***Sometimes "hand tamping" is needed around the edges. Step 7: The funnels should be filled as full as possible from the bottom up y compacting. Any remaining emptiness of the funnels is filled by adding a minimum of 2 inches of the base material to the top of the floor. Wet and compact the top until firmly compacted. Step 8: Apply a MINIMUM of 6 to 8 inches of bedding. SPECIAL NOTE: New construction or stalls repaired with large amounts of fill should be watched closely for settling for 2 to 3 years! If the ground settles, pull anchors and re-level the base. Your Groundmaster floor will last indefinitely--if you keep it LEVEL!
